{"id":10262,"date":"2014-10-29T21:45:20","date_gmt":"2014-10-29T21:45:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.womensenterprise.ca\/?post_type=online_resources&#038;p=10262"},"modified":"2024-12-12T00:32:26","modified_gmt":"2024-12-12T00:32:26","slug":"discussion-paper-women-entrepreneurs-financing-growth","status":"publish","type":"online_resources","link":"https:\/\/resources.we-bc.ca\/fr\/online_resources\/discussion-paper-women-entrepreneurs-financing-growth\/","title":{"rendered":"Discussion Paper: Women Entrepreneurs &#8211; Financing and Growth (2014)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A significant percentage of Canadian women entrepreneurs express growth intention for their businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The top personal barriers to growth include business skills and management experience, family responsibilities, financial strength and literacy, and confidence levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Firm-related barriers include financing and profitability issues, HR issues, and skills and training issues, top external barriers identified were regulatory and tax burdens, demand issues, and costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The top services identified to overcome these barriers were business advising services, mentoring, and financial management training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This paper also aggregated data and literature of access to financing for women entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Women and male owned businesses exhibit different patterns of start-up and business growth financing, women are more likely to use non- traditional and government lending at the start-up phase, and personal savings in the growth phase, while their male counterparties relied on trade credit and retained earnings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Dated: September 2014<\/em><br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A significant percentage of Canadian women entrepreneurs express growth intention for their businesses.
